Corrections Policy
How we handle errors and keep our journalism accurate
Last updated: 24 February 2026
Our Commitment to Accuracy
Getting it right, and fixing it when we don't
Accuracy is fundamental to good journalism. Despite our best efforts, we sometimes make mistakes. When we do, we correct them quickly, clearly, and transparently. This policy explains how we handle corrections, updates, and clarifications.
Types of Corrections
How we categorize errors
Corrections
Factual errors that materially affect the meaning or understanding of a story. Examples include incorrect names, dates, locations, quotes, or misstatements of fact.
Corrections are noted prominently at the top or bottom of the corrected article.
Updates
New information that significantly advances or changes understanding of a story. Not errors, but developments that warrant noting the story has been updated since original publication.
Updates are typically noted at the top of the article with a timestamp.
Clarifications
Additional context or explanation added to prevent misunderstanding, even when the original reporting was technically accurate. Used when a story could be clearer.
Minor Fixes
Typos, spelling errors, or formatting issues that don't affect meaning or understanding. These are fixed without annotation.
How We Correct Errors
Our process for fixing mistakes
Transparency
- • Corrections are clearly labeled and easy to find
- • We explain what was incorrect and what the correct information is
- • We include a timestamp showing when the correction was made
- • Significant corrections may be noted on social media or newsletters
Speed
We aim to correct errors as soon as we become aware of them. Factual errors are typically corrected within hours. More complex issues may require investigation before correction.
Preservation
We do not remove or hide original errors (except in rare cases involving legal issues or safety concerns). Corrections are appended to articles so readers can see what changed and when.
Request a Correction
How to report errors you've found
We welcome corrections from readers. If you believe we've made an error, please let us know:
Email:
corrections@bugle.ieInclude in your message:
- • Link to the article in question
- • Clear description of the error
- • Correct information with sources if available
- • Your contact information (optional but helpful)
We review all correction requests but cannot guarantee a response to each one. Not all requests will result in corrections.
Disagreements vs. Errors
When we won't issue corrections
Not every complaint about our coverage warrants a correction. We distinguish between:
Errors (correctable):
- • Factual mistakes
- • Misquotes or misattribution
- • Incorrect data or statistics
- • Misleading context
Disagreements (not correctable):
- • Editorial judgment calls
- • Story angle or framing
- • Interpretation of events
- • Opinion or analysis you disagree with
If you disagree with our coverage but there's no factual error, consider writing a letter to the editor or contacting our editorial team to discuss.
When Errors Are Serious
How we handle major mistakes
In rare cases, an error is so serious that a correction alone is insufficient. In these situations:
- • We may append an editor's note explaining what went wrong
- • We may publish a separate article correcting the record
- • We may unpublish the article entirely (reserved for extreme cases)
- • We may conduct an internal review of our processes
Unpublishing is rare and typically reserved for cases where the entire premise of a story is false or where publication poses a safety risk.

We take accuracy seriously and appreciate readers who help us get it right.
